During pregnancy the body secretes the hormones relaxin and extra estrogen, both of which cause the muscles, ligaments, and tendons to become more lax leading to increased soreness and more possibility of injury. The bones of the ribcage and pelvis are also shifting which can make for a very uncomfortable mom-to-be, especially if you have pre-existing conditions. Receiving massage during and after your pregnancy can alleviate pain and stress on the muscles and joints, increase blood flow and reduce swelling in the extremities, and relieve some of the stress and anxiety you may be feeling.
